joanne

yesterday, jeremy's grandma passed away. roberta, auntie mar, and barney were by her side. this is very heartbreaking. i want to share my last visit with joanne.

before we moved to germany josh, alyson, and eli were coming to stay with us for a couple of days. the day they came i got home late because after work i had a root canal done. i pulled into the garage and jeremy came out to greet me and informed me that grandma was also there. i was surprised because no one told us she was coming too, but i was happy that we get to see her. i also kind of started to panic. i was wondering if we had enough food, where she would sleep and if my house was clean enough. of course, grandma was totally fine with just sleeping on the couch.

i baked 2 loaves of zucchini bread before they got there and by the time they left, the 2 loaves were gone. grandma pretty much devoured most of it. it was really funny. i would clean up the kitchen before we went to bed and when i woke up in the morning i would find crumbs all over the counter and floor from where she got up and ate more. i was a little irritated because i had just cleaned up the night before only to wake up to have to clean up again. but the fact that grandma enjoyed the bread so much, made me happy!

when we told grandma what we were having for dinner one of the nights she said that she doesnt eat meat because she was vegan. then when we cooked dinner that night she ate the meat. we said something to her about it and she said that she is only a vegan around julia! we found that to be hilarious!

she also said she only drank soy milk and jeremy told her that it was gross. she said that she was getting used to it. well, we had this very delicious, expensive, chocolate milk in the fridge from one of the local creameries and she pretty much drank the whole thing! she loved it a lot!

her and eli fell asleep together.

one of the days we all went to seattle and grandma stayed home. we came back and she told us that she watched the movie "coraline" in 3d - glasses and all. she said she couldnt tell the difference between regular and 3d. =)

she definitely made us laugh when she was visiting. just being around her made my heart smile. i wish i could have been around her more. i only knew her for about 5 years, but it felt like id known her my whole life.

she was an amazing woman and i love hearing stories that everyone tells me about her. she will definitely be missed, but never ever forgotten.

i love you grandma joanne!
