our labor day weekend in garmsich, germany

i finally have this blog done! enjoy! =)

friday 9.3.10

we left the house around noon, i wanted to leave earlier, but you know how that goes. the drive was really nice. i dont think we hit traffic at all - maybe a little in austria, but not too bad. we had to make a pit stop so i could try and feed xavier but he was too curious as to what was going on to even eat! so we started back up on the road. we didnt have very much longer to go, maybe a half hour or so. we also made a pit stop so i could take this photo:

once we got into austria things started to look even more beautiful than before. here are some more photos of the alps:

austrians are crazy drivers. there was this part of the autobahn that went down to two lanes (one on each side) and they were pretty wide for some reason. cars were going over the line to pass other cars even if there were other cars coming! it was kind of scary. we made it to edelweiss and we checked into our room. after i fed xavier we took a drive and looked around town. we grabbed something to eat and drove to the exchange to get toothbrushes (we both needed new ones), and shower stuff. we then came back to the room so i could feed xavier again and we headed back out after that to the resort restaurant for dinner. jeremy got a a 4 course meal special with tomato and basil soup, a crab cake, steak with a cauliflower puree, and 3 little cheesecakes. i had a salad, salmon with garlic potatoes, and a delicous raspberry cheesecake for dessert. overall dinner was good and xavier was pretty good. he fell asleep at the end. after we were done we "paid" for our meals and left. i put paid in quotations because they had us just use our room key to pay for everything bought in the hotel and it would just be added on to the room. we kind of didnt like that, but whatever. we got back to our room and xavier woke up. and when he woke up, he wasnt happy. he stayed this way until i think past midnight. i think that he just wasnt used to sleeping there so he didnt want to sleep there. i was so happy when he finally went to sleep. i was tired!

saturday 9.4.10

we got up and i showered and got ready for the day. we decided to go to the neuschwanstein castle and see what that was like. before we headed out i fed xavier and we stopped at the little coffee shop inside edelweiss and was pretty disappointed at their selection and the products. i got a coffee but had to use low fat milk for my creamer because they didnt have any and they wouldnt substitute something for something they were out of in their breakfast specials. it was lame. so we headed out. garmin said that it was only 23 kilometers away and she LIED! that would have only taken like 20 minutes or a half hour but it took an hour!! while we were driving the traffic going back in to garmisch was extremely slow and backed up! i was kind of regretting going out that day. once we got to the castle we parked the car and we got xavier in his moby wrap and we headed up to the town. i got this photo from the parking lot:

it looked so beautiful - even from just the parking lot! once we got into the village of hohenschwangau we started figuring out what to do. we could either take a bus up to the castle and just look around or buy tickets for a tour inside the castle. we looked at the ticket information and the next english tour was in 2 hours! we decided since it was so far away that we would just take the bus up there and look around. by the time we figured our plan out xavier decided he wanted to eat so i had to go back to the car to feed him, which he didnt really eat that well. he was too curious as to what was going on around him. even though we were pretty much parked in a forest. hahaha jeremy decided to wear xavier this time!! hahaha it was too funny! we walked back up to the village and grabbed a bite to eat from this little stand (jeremy got a bratwurst and i got a schnitzel sandwhich) and i snapped this photo:

isnt he just the cutest?!?! everywhere we went people(especially the asians) would point out how cute he was and a japanese girl actually took a photo with him! it was funny!

then we hopped on a bus and headed up there. the road was super windy and it was kind of freaking me out a bit because there was such a huge drop! the bus took up all of the road and had to slow way down and go easy for some of the turns. once we got up the mountain i was fine. they drop you off where you can walk to a lookout bridge to see the castle from farther away or you can go see it up close and personal. we went to the lookout bridge first. which really freaked me out. one of the boards you walk on was loose and it was weird walking on it. jeremy got this photo from it:

xavier fell asleep by this point. poor little guy was tuckered out! we now headed to the castle to see it up close. on our way downhilll we stopped at this lookout part and saw the hohenschwangau castle. it was cool, here is a photo:

we walked a little bit more and we were at the entrance to the castle. it was pretty cool. we got a few photos of it:

we walked away from the castle and there was another look out point and we took some photos from there as well:

after that we decided to leave. not because we wanted to, but because xavier decided to go to the bathroom and it blew out of his diaper and so he needed to be changed from head to toe! it was gross!

we got up the hill where there are buses and thankfully there was a bus about ready to leave and we got a spot, the last ones! =) i was happy! we got down the mountain in a jiffy and headed back to the car. once we left the village and were on our way home we could still see the castle, i had jeremy pull over so i could take this photo:

traffic wasnt too bad getting home like i thought it would be. there was a little back up and slow traffic, but not too bad. we got back to the hotel, i fed xavier and we just relaxed for a bit. then we headed out downtown to see if we could make it to some of the shops before they closed. to our dissapoinment a lot of the shops were closed and so we stopped and had some ice cream. jeremy had mint chocolate chip and i had grapefruit. i saw a jack's wolfskin store - which is like the european northface - and i wanted to see if we could get a winter coat for xavier. they didnt have any infant coats, sad. we made it into h&m before they closed and got xavier a cute brown winter coat along with mittens and a hat! we also found him a sailor jumper and a tank top onesie. as we were leaving h&m it started to pour! and hard! we had one umbrella and i was holding it over xavier and jeremy and i was getting soaked. i know what you are thinking ("why the heck is mary getting soaked and not jeremy??") but my arms were tired from holding xavier so i didnt mind the break, even if i was getting soaked! we made it back to the hotel and i changed clothes and we went to dinner at a restaurant in the hotel. it was more of the laid back scene with a bar and tv screens. they advertised having ribs for their special and that is what jeremy really wanted. we got there around 7:30 and they were already out of ribs and they only opened at 5pm! jeremy was sad =(. he ended up getting a pizza and i got a bacon cheeseburger. we ate our dinner and then got ready to go swimming. we didnt have a bathing suit for xavier because he hadnt been swimming ever. all we had were the little swimmers diapers, so jeremy put him in his sailor outfit and i thought it was perfect! here it is:

xavier liked swimming, i think. he didnt really show much expression for it. it seemed to me that he has more fun in the bath tub than in the pool. but at the end he cried when we got out. we gave him a bath and i fed him and he fell asleep. while i was lying in bed with him we started to hear music and i wasnt sure what it was that was making the music. maybe just a recording. but it wasnt it was 3 guys in lederhosen playing alpenhorns. i didnt make it in time to take a photo, but it was cool. it made me laugh. after they were done the fireworks started. they were actually pretty cool and i was happy i got to see them since we missed the 4th of july ones here. a few photos of them below:

when the fireworks were finished we went to bed. or attempted to. xavier woke up and decided to be a mister crabby pants and not fall back asleep for a while. it was lame!

sunday 9.5.10

we got up and decided to try the buffet. we got there and ate. it was pretty good. better than that "cafe" thing. hahaa after we ate we headed out to the linderhof palace. before we started on our way we stopped to take this photo; we thought it turned out great:

the palace was about a 25 minute drive. up a windy road and through some countryside. it was very pretty. we got there and was contemplating taking the tour and we decided not to. so we walked to the palace. we were expecting this HUGE, elaborate palace, and got no such thing. it was big, but not that big. the grounds were pretty though with awesome fountains and beautiful sculptures! here are some photos:

jeremy just had to have this photo! i aint gonna lie, its pretty cool! =)

after we walked around for a bit we left and got on our way back to our room so i could feed xavier. i really wanted a photo of the countryside with the cows, and i totally got it:

i like how the cow is looking at the camera! haha

i fed xavier and we headed downtown to see if we could catch the shops while they were still open. we only made it to one, kathy wolfahrt. i got an owl tealight holder and a keychain. pretty cool.

we then came back to our room and i fed xavier and we just relaxed for a while. for dinner we went back to zuggys hoping to score some ribs. we got there around 7:30 and they still had ribs! they were pretty good. i barely got into eating mine when xavier decided to wake up and cause a ruckus! i had to leave and wait for jeremy to "pay" and get the food boxed up. that was kind of lame. i ate my ribs though when we got back to the room and they were still tasty! =) for the rest of the night we just chilled out and relaxed. it was really nice.

monday 9.7.10

we got up early and went to the buffet for breakfast. after that we packed up and checked out to leave. we got gas and headed out! the drive was nice. we got into some traffic but nothing too bad. we had to make one pit stop to feed xavier and let him stretch and that was when we were about an hour out. we got home early enough for me to make dessert for the next day! =)

this trip was awesome and we cant wait to go again! maybe in the winter! that would be awesome!
